BSc Medical Laboratory Technology

Duration: 3 Years + 1 year Internship
Medical Laboratory Technology is an allied health specialty
concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases through the
use of clinical laboratory tests. In this program the students learn to perform
diagnostic analysis on body fluids which include hematological,
bacteriological, immunologic chemical and microscopic tests that aid in the
diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This program also equips students with the
knowledge and skills required to handle advanced lab equipment and perform
accurate laboratory tests. The fact is that the practice of modern medicine
would be impossible without the tests performed in the laboratory.
Opportunities:
Hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, public health facilities, and commercial laboratories all have position open right now for qualified laboratory professionals. Employment of clinical workers is expected to grow as the volume of laboratory tests increases with population growth and the development of new types of tests.
Admission criteria:
Two-year Pre-University examination/10+2 or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.

The vocational higher secondary education courses conducted by Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Govt. of Kerala with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in addition to vocational subjects conducted is considered equivalent to plus TWO examinations of GOK- Pre-University Course.
OR
Lateral entry to second year for allied health science courses for candidates who have passed diploma program from the Govt. Boards and recognized by RGUHS.
The selection of students to will be based on merit provided that:
In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination.
In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination is not less than 40%.
Minimum Age:
A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31st December of the year of admission.
