Bachelor of Occupational Therapy

Duration: 4 Years

Occupational therapy is the branch of science that deals with curing and rehabilitating the physically, emotionally and mentally disabled and challenged people. It focuses on adapting the environment according to the patient, and teaching and educating them in the necessary skills needed in performing daily activities.

Opportunities

BOT trains students to become skilled professional occupational therapists, capable of undertaking independent/supervised practice. There are several opportunities after pursuing a Bachelor of Occupational.  The candidates after completion of the course are hired in Rehabilitation Centers, Multi-Specialty Hospitals, Private Practice/Private clinics, Mental Hospitals, Geriatric homes/ Old age Homes, and many more, as Occupational therapists, Occupational Therapy Nurses, etc. there are many opportunities for occupational therapists outside India as well. OTs can go for any medical facilities or sports franchise.

Admission criteria:

Two year Pre University examination/10+2 or equivalent as recognized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as principal subjects of study.

OR

The vocational higher secondary education courses conducted by Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Govt. of Kerala with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English in addition to vocational subjects conducted is considered equivalent to plus TWO examinations of GOK- Pre University Course.

OR

Lateral entry to second year for allied health science courses for candidates who have passed diploma program from the Govt. Boards and recognized by RGUHS.

The selection of students to will be based on merit provided that:

In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination.

In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination is not less than 40%.

Minimum Age:

A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31st December of the year of admission.
